Abu Simbel Temples.
A detailed tour to Abu Simbel Temples is one of the most unforgettable experiences in southern Egypt. The journey usually begins early in the morning from Aswan, by a comfortable private vehicle, traveling approximately 280 km through the desert, adding a sense of adventure before reaching the site.
Upon arrival, you’ll be amazed by the grandeur of the temples, built during the reign of Ramesses II in the 13th century BC. The Great Temple is dominated by four colossal, seated statues of the king, each about 20 meters high, carved directly into the mountainside with remarkable precision.
Inside the Great Temple, you’ll explore a series of impressive halls decorated with detailed carvings that depict military victories, religious rituals, and offerings to the gods. One of the most fascinating highlights is the solar alignment phenomenon, when sunlight reaches the inner sanctuary twice a year, illuminating the statues of the gods an extraordinary example of ancient Egyptian engineering.
You’ll then visit the smaller temple dedicated to Queen Nefertari and the goddess Hathor. This temple is unique because the statues of the queen are nearly equal in size to those of the king, which was very rare in ancient Egypt. The interior is beautifully decorated with colorful reliefs showing scenes of devotion and divine symbolism.
Another key highlight is the story of the temples’ relocation in the 1960s. They were carefully dismantled and moved to higher ground to protect them from the rising waters of Lake Nasser after the construction of the Aswan High Dam a remarkable international rescue project.
After exploring the site, you’ll have time to take photos and enjoy the peaceful surroundings of Lake Nasser before heading back to Aswan.
This tour offers a perfect combination of history, architecture, and breathtaking scenery, making Abu Simbel a must visit destination.
